IPOH, March 14 — Police are actively tracking down a suspect believed to be involved in an attempted cable theft along Jalan Tambun.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police detected the incident after a video recording was uploaded on TikTok by an account owner identified as Faiz.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred at about 4.05 am on March 13 in front of Optimax Ipoh Specialist Centre along Jalan Tambun.

“Based on the video recording, the suspect is believed to have used a white four-wheel-drive (4×4) vehicle and attempted to open a manhole cover in the middle of the road to steal cables,” he said in a statement.

However, the suspect is believed to have fled the scene by speeding off in the vehicle after realising that his actions had been recorded by members of the public.

He added that police are currently working to identify and locate the suspect, including reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from around the area.

Members of the public with any information related to the incident are urged to channel the information to the nearest police station.
