IPOH: Perak police have detected seven scam cases involving orders for kuih raya and festive dishes, with total losses amounting to RM300,000.

Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said the syndicate is believed to have been active since December last year, targeting catering and pastry operators.

He said the modus operandi involved placing large orders for kuih raya or specific dishes before deceiving victims through various fraudulent tactics.

“Scammers would place orders in certain quantities from business operators, but victims ultimately suffer losses when payments are not made or are cheated through certain methods,” he said.

He advised the public, particularly food traders, to remain vigilant against unusual orders, especially ahead of the festive season.

Police also urged victims to come forward and lodge reports to assist further investigations into the syndicate’s activities.
