IPOH: “In a world full of differences, our choice is not merely to speak — but to decide whether our words unite or divide.”
This was among the key messages delivered by Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad during the State-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration 2026 at Stadium Indera Mulia here yesterday.

He said Aidilfitri should not only be celebrated with festivity, but also embraced through the values of forgiveness, compassion and togetherness, which form the foundation of unity.
The event was graced by the presence of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Tuanku Zara Salim, reflecting the close bond between the royal institution and the people.

Saarani noted that the festive atmosphere, which brings families together and strengthens ties, should serve as a basis for enhancing harmony among Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-religious society.
“The true meaning of Aidilfitri lies in forgiveness that resolves conflicts, love that reconnects relationships, and togetherness that opens the door to mutual understanding,” he said.

At the same time, he reminded the public not to take for granted the peace currently enjoyed, especially as other parts of the world continue to face conflicts and wars.
He pointed out that some communities celebrate Aidilfitri in fear and uncertainty, with many experiencing loss due to ongoing violence.
“While we celebrate with our families, others struggle even for basic necessities and live in fear.
“Therefore, we must truly appreciate the peace we have today,” he added.

Saarani also expressed concern over rising issues related to racial and religious sensitivities, particularly on social media.
He said such platforms should be used to spread positivity and strengthen understanding, rather than becoming arenas for disputes and division.

He urged the public to exercise wisdom in expressing views and to always choose peace over conflict.
“Let us correct misunderstandings, refine our intentions and purify our hearts so that we become a society that chooses to understand rather than to oppose,” he said.

He added that the spirit of Syawal, which carries values of reflection and forgiveness, must continue to be nurtured to ensure lasting peace and harmony in the state and the nation.
The event, which began at 2.30pm, was also attended by state leaders, members of the royal family and people from all walks of life.
