IPOH: A commotion that broke out at the Station 18 traffic light junction here is believed to be linked to a motorcycle theft case.
Ipoh District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police detected a viral video on Facebook showing the incident.
The video, uploaded by a user under the account name ‘empathecarugula8731’, was shared on the Ipoh Station 18 Ajee community page.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that a group of members of the public attempted to apprehend a local man suspected of being involved in a motorcycle theft,” he said in a statement.
According to him, the attempt triggered a scuffle between the suspect and the public before the man was successfully detained at the scene.
The suspect was later handed over to the police and taken to the Kuala Kangsar District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
Muhammad Najib also reminded the public not to take matters into their own hands as it may be unlawful or pose safety risks.
“The public is urged to channel any relevant information to the police to assist in investigations,” he added.
