IPOH – Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for temporary fireworks stalls nationwide will be reviewed to ensure community safety is fully protected.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said his ministry has directed the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Local Government Department (JKT) to conduct a thorough review of the SOP.

He added that the ministry will also assess the need for every licensed stall to be equipped with functional fire extinguishers, enabling immediate action in the event of a fire.
“This move aims to ensure that every trader operates responsibly, placing the safety of the local community as the highest priority.
“The guidelines will focus on setting appropriate safety distances between stalls and re-evaluating stall locations to prevent them from being too close to permanent structures or residential areas.
“Safety and festivity must go hand in hand. By refining these guidelines, we are committed to strengthening public safety so that all Malaysians can enjoy a lively festival season in a safe environment,” he said.
