SUNWAY CITY, 30 MARCH 2026 – Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, has been awarded the Hospital of the Year – Malaysia in the prestigious Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, marking the hospital’s fifth consecutive win in the category.
In addition, SMC also received Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year – Malaysia, which recognises SMC’s adoption of digital technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency and overall patient satisfaction.
This continued recognition underscores the hospital’s capabilities in advancing healthcare delivery through clinical excellence, innovation and patient-centred care.
Backed by more than 300 resident consultants across 80 medical specialities, and 28 Centres of Excellence, SMC continues to set benchmarks in delivering holistic, multidisciplinary care. The hospital recognises that every patient is unique, having treatment plans that are tailored to individual needs.
Dr Seow Vei Ken, Chief Executive Officer of SMC, said the recognitions highlight the hospital’s continued commitment to advance healthcare delivery through both medical expertise and innovation.
“To be conferred with the Hospital of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year, alongside the Smart Hospital Initiative recognition, is a powerful validation of our vision at SMC. It reflects our ongoing commitment to advance healthcare through clinical excellence, innovation, and most importantly, better patient outcomes. We will continue our pursuit of integrating cutting-edge digital solutions to enhance care delivery and patient satisfaction, ensuring that our patients receive world-class healthcare at every touchpoint,” he said.
Among SMC’s key advancements is the introduction of Malaysia’s first Photon-Counting CT System in 2025, a next-generation technology that elevates medical imaging to a new standard, offering ultra-high resolution across a wide range of clinical applications.
SMC recently marked a milestone in its robotic spine surgery program using the AiBLE™ Spine Surgical Suite. The technology provides robotic guidance support for spine procedures, supporting minimally invasive surgery practices in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.
The awards further add to a growing list of international recognitions received by SMC. The hospital was recently recognised as the Top Hospital in Malaysia and among the top 250 hospitals worldwide in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026. It was also ranked number 1 in Asia for cataract surgery in Newsweek’s Asia’s Top Private Hospitals and Clinics 2026, alongside top rankings in ophthalmology and orthopaedic procedures.
As the flagship hospital of Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG), SMC continues to strengthen and expand its capabilities. With the completion of its sixth block, Tower F (Children’s Pavilion), by the third quarter of this year, its capacity will exceed 1,000 beds. This growth will be supported by a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering personalised, holistic care.
SMC is also Malaysia’s first private hospital to attain three major hospital-wide accreditations: Joint Commission International (JCI) The Gold Seal of Approval from the United States of America, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International, and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
The Healthcare Asia Awards is an annual programme that acknowledges outstanding hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organisations across Asia. The awards emphasise institutions that demonstrate exceptional innovation, set new benchmarks in healthcare excellence and make significant contributions to their communities.
