TAPAH: A grocery shop here allowed customers to buy the subsidised 1kg packet of cooking oil, but only if they purchased other grocery items first.
The condition imposed by the retailer prompted an enforcement raid by the Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail stated that the operation was conducted recently in response to a public complaint.
“Members of the public alleged that the premises required customers to buy additional items before they could purchase the subsidised 1kg packet of cooking oil.
“A disguised operation and test purchase were conducted, and we found the complaint to be valid.
“The retailer was found to have made it compulsory for customers to buy other grocery items as a condition to obtain the packet of cooking oil,” he said.

Enforcement officers subsequently seized 714kg of the 1kg packet cooking oil, business documents, relevant licences and purchase invoices.
The total value of the seized items is estimated at RM1,785.
Kamalludin said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for allegedly imposing unauthorised conditions on the sale of controlled goods, namely subsidised packet cooking oil, without written approval from the supply controller.
