IPOH: Four boom gate structures or physical barriers erected on road reserves were demolished in an operation carried out by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) yesterday.
A total of 80 personnel, with the cooperation of various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), participated in the operation.

“MBI has conducted Phase 1 of the 2026 Operation to Demolish Unapproved Structures.
“It involved four locations where boom gates or access barriers were built on road reserves to control entry into residential areas within MBI’s administrative boundaries.
“The operation was carried out in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which includes the issuance of a Demolition Notice under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133),” an MBI spokesperson said.

The notice provides a 30-day compliance period for the parties involved.
However, extensions may be considered by MBI on a case-by-case basis.
The demolition operation began at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at approximately 11:00 a.m.
A boom gate refers to a barrier or gate comprising a long arm that can be raised or lowered to control vehicle access into an area.
