Teluk Intan Marks 22 Years as a Municipality

TELUK INTAN: April 4 marks the 22nd anniversary of Teluk Intan’s declaration as a municipality, a milestone first achieved on 4 April 2004.

The date reflects the town’s journey of continuous and rapid development over the years.

The name Teluk Intan is believed to have originated from the discovery of gemstones along a bend of the Perak River in the past, giving the town its distinctive identity.

The town was once known as Teluk Anson during the British colonial era before reverting to Teluk Intan, restoring its local heritage and identity.

Over more than two decades, Teluk Intan has undergone significant transformation in physical, economic and social development.

Today, it has grown into a dynamic and competitive area.

The Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) remains committed to strengthening urban governance by improving public amenities and ensuring a clean, safe and conducive environment.

Digitalisation efforts have also been enhanced through improved online services for convenience of residents.

The town’s achievements today are the result of strong cooperation between the council, government agencies and the local community.

Continuous support from Teluk Intan residents has also been a key driver of its progress.

The 22nd anniversary celebration is hoped to catalyse continued advancement.

MPTI remains committed to ensuring that Teluk Intan continues to grow as a prosperous, harmonious and thriving municipality.
