Police hunt two men for stealing a cash box and a phone from a roadside nasi seller

IPOH — Police are tracking down two men involved in a theft case involving a cash box and a mobile phone at a budget nasi stall along Lebuh Meru Raya here.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident is believed to have occurred around 12 noon while the complainant was busy preparing and packing food for customers.

According to him, the two Malay men, who were riding a silver Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, had initially stopped at the stall to purchase food.

“While the complainant was packing rice, the suspects are believed to have taken a cash box containing cash and an iPhone 13 belonging to the complainant before fleeing the scene on their motorcycle towards the Meru Raya roundabout,” he said in a statement.

He said the total losses were estimated at about RM2,000, involving cash and the mobile phone.

He added that footage of the incident has gone viral on Facebook after being uploaded by members of the public, drawing attention from netizens.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
