IPOH: Public solidarity over the plight of three elephants — Dara, Amoi and Kelat (DAK) — at Tennoji Zoo in Osaka, Japan, is set to grow louder through a special initiative.
Coordinator of the Secretariat for Solidarity with Dara, Amoi and Kelat (DAK), Neow Choo Seong, has decided to undertake a solo run from Taiping to the Malaysian Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur as a sign of solidarity.
He said the run is scheduled to begin on June 17 in Taiping and is expected to conclude at Parliament on June 22.
According to him, the initiative is not merely symbolic, but aims to raise public awareness regarding efforts to bring the elephants home and safeguard the welfare of DAK.
The distance between Taiping and the Malaysian Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur is approximately 265 kilometres.
The announcement was made during his special appearance on Hot FM this morning, where he voiced public concerns over the fate of the three elephants.
Neow, who is also a special officer to the Deputy Prime Minister II, said growing awareness surrounding the issue involving DAK in Japan had pushed him to take a more active role to ensure the voices of the public and wildlife lovers continue to be heard.
He said he could no longer remain silent over developments surrounding the issue and decided to embark on the solo run from Taiping to the Malaysian Parliament building as a show of solidarity.
He also expressed appreciation to Hot FM for providing a platform to share updates on the issue with the public.
“I would like to thank members of the public who continue to support the efforts of the Secretariat for Solidarity with DAK in spreading awareness on this issue.
“Your voice, their hope,” Neow said, while expressing hope that more parties would come forward to champion the plight of Dara, Amoi and Kelat.
