Inaugural Jelapang Bowling Tournament “Piala Dato’ Selvam 2026” Draws Strong Community Support

The inaugural Jelapang Bowling Tournament ‘Piala Dato’ Selvam 2026′, organised by Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Jelapang with the support of Kelab Olahraga Jelapang, concluded on 14 June at Ipoh Bowl, AEON Kinta City at 6.00pm, marking an important milestone in the development of community-based sports in Jelapang.

The tournament, which featured an Open Category team format of four players per team, attracted close to 60 participants, bringing together local bowlers of various ages and backgrounds in a spirited display of sportsmanship, friendship and healthy competition.

As the first edition of the tournament, the event was introduced to promote bowling as a recreational sport while strengthening community ties and encouraging active lifestyles.

The Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Sundaresan Raman, the newly elected President of Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Jelapang described the inaugural event as a meaningful success and praised the strong cooperation among all parties involved.

“This inaugural tournament has set a strong foundation for what we hope will become a long-standing annual sporting event for the Jelapang community. The level of participation, teamwork and community support has been truly encouraging. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success,” he said.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr Sundaresan Raman, expressed his appreciation to all participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporting organisations for their contribution to the success of the event.

“The successful organisation of this inaugural tournament reflects the strong unity and commitment within our community. We are truly encouraged by the overwhelming response and sporting spirit shown by all participants. We hope this tournament will continue to grow and become an annual sporting highlight for the Jelapang community,” he said.

The Organising Committee Secretary, T. Mahathevan of Kelab Olahraga Jelapang, highlighted that his involvement in organising the tournament has been a valuable learning experience.

“Being part of the organising team for this inaugural tournament has given me greater experience, knowledge and also a lot of enjoyment. It has been a meaningful journey working with a dedicated team, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to an event that brings the community together through sport,” he said.

The organising committee extended its sincere appreciation to the main sponsor, Dato Selvam Krishnan, Managing Director of Admiral Quality Tech Sdn Bhd, a pioneer in oil and gas engineering services.

Dato Selvam, who is also associated with the Malaysian Association of South India and Vice President of the Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya Indian Chamber of Commerce, congratulated President Sundaresan Raman and the organising committee for the successful execution of the event.

He expressed pride in being associated with the tournament as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed at supporting youth and family-based community programmes.

“Sports play an important role in strengthening family relationships, friendships, networking and creating lasting memories. Such community-based sporting events help to promote a healthy lifestyle and positive environment, especially among youth, encouraging them towards constructive activities and away from negative influences. I am proud and glad to support this initiative and congratulate the organisers on a well-executed event,” he said.
