A man was talked down from a highway bridge after attempting to jump in Ipoh

IPOH: A 24-year-old man suffered injuries to his hand after allegedly attempting to jump from a highway bridge along Jalan Bercham here today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at about 9.42am.

“A man was reported attempting to jump from a highway bridge.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the man attempting to jump from the bridge, while police officers were already at the scene.

“The incident commander carried out an initial assessment before directing personnel to conduct the rescue operation by counselling and persuading the victim to come to safety,” he said in a statement.

The man was successfully rescued and was found to have sustained injuries to his hand.

He was later handed over to the Ministry of Health for further action.

The operation involved seven firefighters from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station.
