IPOH: More than 91 percent of MyKiosk units nationwide have been occupied, benefiting over 7,000 hawker families, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said.
Nga said the initiative not only provides hawkers with safer, more organised and comfortable business spaces, but also helps boost their income, create new economic opportunities and strengthen local community development.
“The MyKiosk initiative continues to deliver positive results in empowering the economy of hawkers and small traders across the country.
“To date, a total of 7,243 MyKiosk units have been developed nationwide, with an occupancy rate exceeding 91 per cent, benefiting more than 7,000 hawker families,” he said.
He added that the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will continue improving the implementation of the MyKiosk programme to ensure more small entrepreneurs can benefit from the initiative.
Meanwhile, traders operating at the MyKiosk site in Pangsapuri Seri Kepayang said the affordable rental rates have enabled them to conduct their businesses in a far more comfortable environment than before.
They said they no longer have to worry about heavy rain or scorching heat, as the kiosks provide adequate shelter while allowing them to store their goods safely.
They also noted that strong winds are no longer a concern, unlike previously, when they had to rely on unstable umbrellas while trading outdoors.
MyKiosk is a Federal Government initiative implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, in collaboration with local authorities.
The programme aims to support local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by helping them become more competitive, improve their business capabilities and strengthen the socio-economic wellbeing of local communities.
The initiative also helps reduce dependence on unlicensed trading in public areas, which often leads to issues such as congestion, cleanliness and public safety, while contributing to a more organised urban landscape and improving the overall image of towns and cities.
