WCE Strengthens Commitment to Biodiversity Conservation with Taiping Zoo

By Zaki Salleh

TAIPING: West Coast Expressway (WCE) has reinforced its commitment to sustainable development through a corporate contribution to Zoo Taiping & Night Safari (ZTNS).

The initiative, carried out under WCE’s ‘WE CARE’ (Work, Community, Environment) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, continues a partnership that began in 2016 to support Malaysia’s biodiversity conservation efforts.

The latest contribution includes sponsorship under the Malayan Gaur Adoption Programme, the creation of a mural depicting the West Coast Expressway corridor, and the development of the WCE Pocket Park within the zoo grounds.

WCE Managing Director Lyndon Alfred Felix said the initiative is expected to raise public awareness of wildlife conservation, enhance the surroundings of Zoo Taiping, and strengthen the tourism appeal of the historic town of Taiping.

He said sustainable infrastructure development should benefit communities while preserving the country’s natural heritage and local culture.

“A highway not only connects destinations but also catalyzes economic opportunities, community development, and environmental sustainability.

“WCE has been participating in the Malayan Gaur Adoption Programme since 2016 in support of efforts to conserve one of Malaysia’s iconic wildlife species.

“The company will continue its long-term commitment, as biodiversity conservation is a shared responsibility for the benefit of future generations,” he said.

Earlier, he officiated the presentation ceremony at the Pavilion of Zoo Taiping & Night Safari.

Also present were Taiping Municipal Council President Mohamed Akmal Dahalan and Zoo Taiping & Night Safari Administrative Officer Muhammad Hafizzuddin Azhar.
