Testing of Roundabout at Centrepoint

By KT Leong

Today is the first day of testing for a roundabout to be installed at 2, Jalan Chew Sin Onn, Taman Hoover 31650, Ipoh, Perak; in the Centrepoint area.

Pasir Pinji assemblyman Goh See Hua met with reporters this morning to brief on the testing of the new roundabout and share the news with the public.

The roundabout testing site is on a junction that is known to be accident prone

“This is to help the public. This area has been troubling locals for years. Normally, there would be a lot of honking by now, because no one is sure which direction others are going. But now, we’ve noticed there’s already a reduction in honking”, said Goh.

Goh stated that the final size of the roundabout will be adjusted as they observe the traffic over the testing period. They don’t want the roundabout to be too big, nor too small. At the moment, it is only taking up 4.5 meters in diameter.

The testing period is not set. Goh said it could be one, or even two months. It depends on what’s observed.

“Unfortunately, 3 or 4 parking lots will have to be removed to keep the flow of traffic smooth. In the long term, we want to add more parking lots to the area but for now, there will be a small reduction”, said Goh.

Lines and signages will be installed as the size and placement of the roundabout are finalised, to help the public understand the flow of traffic.
