PANGKOR – Pangkor State Assemblyman Norhaslinda Zakaria conducted a site inspection of the staircase at Pangkor Jetty following public complaints regarding its maintenance and safety.
The inspection found that the staircase surface had become slippery and was covered with barnacles, posing a potential hazard to users.
She said the situation requires immediate attention to prevent any untoward incidents.
According to her, Pangkor Jetty was previously managed by the Marine Department, which had dedicated personnel responsible for cleaning and maintenance works.
However, she claimed that such services have ceased since the jetty’s management was taken over by the Perak State Secretary Incorporated (SSI Perak).
She added that cleaning works are now being carried out voluntarily by staff from the ferry operating company.
Norhaslinda said the matter deserves urgent attention to ensure the safety of the public at all times.
She also stressed that Pangkor Jetty is the main gateway connecting Pulau Pangkor and Lumut, serving as the first impression for visiting tourists.
She expressed hope that the relevant authorities would take prompt action to ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and well-maintained.
