BATU GAJAH: A total of 145.68 kilograms of invasive alien fish were successfully caught during the Moh Buru Ikan Asing @ Silverlakes programme.
The programme was organised by the Kinta-Kampar District Fisheries Office in collaboration with the Kinta District and Land Office.
It aimed to raise public awareness of the threats posed by invasive alien fish species to local aquatic ecosystems.
The activity also educated participants on the importance of controlling invasive fish populations to safeguard biodiversity and the nation’s fisheries resources.
Beyond environmental conservation, the programme served as a platform to encourage community participation in recreational activities that contribute to the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
The participation of anglers and their families further fostered a spirit of cooperation while strengthening community ties.
Earlier, the programme was officially launched by Perak State Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Plantations, Agriculture and Food Industry, Dato’ Mohd Zolkafy Harun.
During the event, the Perak State Department of Fisheries Malaysia also held an exhibition and operated a customer service counter for visitors.
The initiative provided the public with an opportunity to obtain information on fisheries resource conservation and the department’s services.
