IPOH – The longstanding relationship between Ipoh and Fukuoka, Japan, has been further strengthened through the Fukuoka–Ipoh Sister City Youth Exchange Programme.
The programme serves as a platform to enhance cultural understanding, knowledge sharing and people-to-people ties between the two cities.
A total of eight youths from Fukuoka, accompanied by three officials, participated in the programme and were welcomed at a dinner reception held at the Ipoh Convention Centre.
They also had the opportunity to stay with host families, allowing them to experience daily life, customs and family values within the local community.
During their stay in Ipoh, the participants were introduced to the city’s heritage, cultural diversity, natural attractions and local cuisine.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) expressed its appreciation to the State Education Department (JPN), District Education Office (PPD), schools, host families, teachers, coordinators and organising committee for their commitment in making the programme a success.
The programme is expected to continue serving as a platform to strengthen the Fukuoka–Ipoh friendship and foster lasting connections between the youths of both cities.
Ipoh and Fukuoka have maintained a sister-city relationship since 21 March 1989.
The partnership focuses on close cooperation in administration, cultural exchange, tourism and student exchange programmes to further strengthen the friendship between both sides.
Youth and school student exchange programmes, for instance, are organised periodically to provide participants with valuable international exposure.
