IPOH: The bus stop along Jalan Raja Musa Aziz here, where a senior citizen had been staying for more than a week, was cleaned by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) on Tuesday.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah said various belongings and waste had been left around the bus stop and pavement, requiring a thorough cleaning operation.
“MBI organised a cleaning and washing operation at the unhygienic homeless area at the location, which had gone viral and was identified as a hotspot on Tuesday, starting at 9 am.
“The operation involved the bus stops along Jalan Raja Musa Aziz and Jalan CM Yusuf, as well as the pavement next to 7-Eleven.
“MBI provided an open lorry, cleaning personnel and a water jetter to collect and dispose of waste, clean the area and wash the affected surfaces,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said MBI was aware that the Social Welfare Department (JKM), through the Kinta District Social Welfare Office (PKMD), with police assistance, had taken the senior citizens for further medical treatment.
Therefore, MBI’s action focused on maintaining cleanliness, comfort and public safety in the public space concerned.
“MBI would like to express its appreciation to JKM, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), relevant agencies and concerned members of the public who provided information, enabling appropriate action to be taken.
“MBI will continue to monitor locations identified as gathering points and hotspots to ensure the cleanliness and comfort of public facilities are maintained,” he said.
