PANGKOR – The tourism image of Pulau Pangkor has been negatively affected by piles of garbage at the ferry jetty, which serves as the main entry point for tourists.
The situation is believed to have been caused by an increase in the number of visitors, coupled with an insufficient number of rubbish bins.
The issue should have been addressed earlier by providing adequate rubbish bins and deploying sufficient cleaning personnel.
The negative situation was highlighted by Pangkor State Assemblywoman Norhaslinda Zakaria in a post on her Facebook page.
She said she had received complaints from members of the public regarding uncollected rubbish at the Pulau Pangkor Jetty.
She said the situation was disappointing as the jetty serves as the main gateway for tourists arriving on the island.
“Piles of rubbish left unattended not only spoil the scenery but also create a negative image of Pulau Pangkor as a tourism destination,” she said.
She urged the relevant agency to take immediate action to clean up the area and ensure rubbish collection is carried out according to schedule.
Norhaslinda stressed that her post was not intended to find fault or blame any party, but to ensure that repeated public complaints are addressed promptly.
She hoped all parties would handle the issue maturely and professionally to ensure the jetty remains clean and comfortable for both residents and tourists.
