TAIPING – Malaysia Day was celebrated differently this year by 50 students from six secondary schools in the Larut, Matang and Selama district.
They marked the significant national occasion by participating in the Overnight at the Museum 2026 programme at the Matang Museum here.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to experience history learning in a more engaging and interactive environment.
Among the participating schools were SMK Kamunting, SMK King Edward, SMK Bukit Jana and SMK Matang.
The Perak Heritage Association was also invited to assist the organising committee in ensuring the smooth running of the programme.
Five teachers were also involved, serving as facilitators for the participants.
Also present was Matang Museum Curator Noraini Hassan.
Various activities were organised to bring the younger generation closer to the country’s history and heritage.
These included sessions by the Malaysian National Civics Academy, Young Curator and Museum Exploration programmes.
The activities provided participants with an opportunity to explore the collections, historical stories and heritage values preserved at the Matang Museum.
The programme was not merely an experience of spending a night at a museum, but also served as a platform for students to learn, explore and appreciate history.
The initiative also helped nurture a sense of appreciation for the nation’s heritage while strengthening the identity and character of the younger generation.
