IPOH: Anyone who has traveled through several certain locations around Ipoh would likely notice burned-out vehicles stranded for long periods, sometimes lasting years.
A question lingers in the minds of many Ipoh residents: why are numerous burned-out vehicles left along roadsides and highways around Ipoh without any follow-up action?
A survey near the highway entrance in Meru Raya, specifically near the traffic lights of the Perak Techno Trade Centre (PTTC) building on Jalan Jelapang, found two burned-out vehicles reportedly left stranded for a considerable time.
A little further ahead, near the traffic lights leading to the Mydin Hypermarket and Terminal Aman Jaya, a motorcycle stripped down to its frame lies abandoned on the road divider.
Similarly, at the exit ramp near Exquisite Seafood Restaurant heading toward Bercham, a burned-out car meets the same fate.
More puzzlingly, the same phenomenon occurs across the road on the route leading to the Gunung Lang or Ipoh exit.
An Ipoh resident shared his perspective on the matter, remarking that if these burned-out and stranded cars were gathered in one location, it would resemble an “open-air museum of accident vehicles.”
“It started with a single burned and damaged car on the shoulder of the road near Exquisite Seafood Restaurant, close to the Bercham exit.
“That car has been stranded there for over a year. At first, I thought the authorities would remove it because its position on the highway shoulder poses a hazard to passing motorists.
“However, after a year passed, another burned and damaged car appeared to join the ‘group.’ This time, it was on the opposite side of the highway, just past the entrance from Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, near a large billboard.
“That occurred a few months ago. Recently, within two weeks, another similar damaged and burned car appeared, as if they were multiplying.
“Now we have three cars, all damaged and burned, placed on the grassy area along the highway.
“Shouldn’t these vehicles be removed immediately, given that they could potentially cause further accidents?” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
Another individual shared the same view, noting that the situation blights the local landscape.
“Near the junction to Terminal Amanjaya, a damaged and burned motorcycle has been left untouched without being removed.
“Coupled with the charred car near PTTC, are they being left there to serve as monuments? The authorities are urged to address this issue,” he said.
