IPOH: Another decorative lamp post near the bridge along Jalan Leong Boon Swee here has been damaged, with several others already vandalised, leaving only their lower structures intact.
A check along the road showed that a number of the decorative lamp posts had been damaged and appeared to have been stripped of their upper sections.
An Ipoh resident who recorded the area’s condition said authorities should identify and apprehend those responsible.
Several others also called for closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed at locations considered vulnerable to vandalism and theft.
“Another decorative lamp post has been damaged. Please take note that the latest one has also been damaged and destroyed. We hope the authorities can help identify and apprehend those responsible,” said Anthony.
Meanwhile, another Ipoh resident said the authorities should also inspect scrap dealers, arguing that theft would be less widespread if there was no market for stolen goods.
“Why are only the thieves being arrested? Scrap dealers who accept stolen items should also be charged,” he said.
“There are no CCTV cameras installed along this stretch. How are the authorities supposed to catch the culprits?” another individual said.
“I have personally seen them stealing cables right outside my house. I made a report, but they were too quick for me to chase after them. It is dangerous for members of the public to take matters into their own hands,” said another Ipoh resident.
