BATU GAJAH: Residents of Rancangan Perkampungan Tersusun (RPT) Batu 6 here have been grappling with a fly nuisance for more than 10 years, which they believe is linked to the presence of chicken coops in the surrounding area.
A resident, Junita Rahman, claimed that various efforts had been made, including bringing the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities, but no solution had been found.
She said the fly nuisance had significantly affected residents’ daily lives, particularly their health and quality of life.
“How much longer do we, the residents of Batu 6, have to put up with this never-ending fly nuisance?
“Where are the relevant authorities who are supposed to monitor the chicken coops in this area? Do we have to write a letter to the Menteri Besar before this problem is resolved?
“We have been facing this never-ending problem for 10 years. The relevant authorities should monitor the chicken coop operators.
“It is understood that there are three chicken coops in this area. How many more will be added?” she said, stressing that chicken coop operators should be more aware of and responsible for the issue.
She urged the relevant authorities, including the Batu Gajah District Council (MDBG), Perak Department of Veterinary Services and the District Health Office, to conduct a site visit and see for themselves the problem that had been troubling residents for years.
Meanwhile, many others have also raised concerns over the same issue, with residents from neighbouring areas claiming to have been affected by the nuisance.
“The flies have reached as far as Taman Gading, where there are so many that we cannot even open our doors because of the nuisance.
“This is worrying many people,” said one resident.
