Reaching Out to Underprivileged Students

By Mei Kuan

Aimed to reach out to the community, World Class Motor (WCM) marked the final day of the year with a corporate social responsibility effort aiding underprivileged students around Ipoh with school necessities and supplies.

This is the first-ever joint effort between the premium used car dealership and Perak Women for Women (PWW), with the objective of easing the burden of struggling parents faced with a tumbling economy to sustain their families and kids for the 2021 school session.

Pre-packed bags comprising school uniforms, stationeries, shoes and school bags were distributed by the team at Taman Harmoni’s Apartment in Buntong today (December 31).

Chris Ooi, Director of WCM explained that a total of 26 students hailing from around Ipoh were selected to receive the donation. “Education is the key to our children’s future. Regardless of background, ambitions and hardships, I believe that this event will resonate with them in the future to keep on chasing their dreams and striving their best in studies despite obstacles in life. The team was so excited to deliver the school bags to the students and these are the values World Class Motor wants to instill in our employees: to give more when you get more,” he said.

According to him, the collaborative effort between WCM and PWW was a noble cause that should be carried on in the coming days.

“It is delightful plus heartening to see the smiles on the students’ and their parents’ faces. For me, my team has learned more than I can imagine, all thanks to PWW and those who are involved,” he enthused.

Yip Siew Keen, Co-founder of PWW on behalf of Sumathi Sivamany, President of PWW, expressed their hope to see more private sectors come together and empower the community not only through a monetary donation, but also in-kind and various other platforms.

“It is uplifting to see corporate sectors come together and support the marginalised community through whatever means possible. It shows that besides their conventional work routine, there is still a place to help others in their hearts. May this be a ripple effect for the others, to give more,” she added.

The Back to School program is a part of PWW’s effort in sourcing and working together with public and private sectors around Ipoh to support the local underprivileged community. To learn more, visit the PWW Facebook page.
