Three Individuals Captured Over Suspected Involvement in a Drug Syndicate

The police of Perak have arrested three individuals believed to be members of a drug distribution syndicate during a raid at Bandar Lahat Mines here in Ipoh on Monday (October 4).

According to the state police chief, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, the suspects arrested were aged between 21 to 42. Drugs worth RM276,102.50 overall were seized.

“One of them, a man aged 42, was found in a shop lot, with 62 packets (1kg each) of compressed dried leaves, believed to be ganja worth RM248,000, in his possession.

“The capture led to a follow-up raid at a nearby house lot, where two women, one local and the other an Indonesian foreigner, were found. 1,400 ya ba pills* and 2.05g of ganja worth around RM28,102.50 were subsequently seized.”

He said in a media session at the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) today (October 6).

Mior added that preliminary investigations found that all three suspects were believed to have sourced the drugs from a state up north for local markets.

“The man has been in Malaysia since 2014, while the Indonesian woman has been here since April earlier this year. Both do not possess valid visas.

“They were all tested negative for drugs and the police found no prior counts of criminal offences.

“We also have a reason to believe that the syndicate is recruiting foreigners to be a part of its team. Drugs seized from this operation could be supplied for usage by at least 151,000 drug addicts,” he explained.

“Also seized in the operation were a lorry, a Proton Waja car, two motorcycles and jewelleries worth RM86,663 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

“The suspects are currently remanded for six days until October 10. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” Mior mentioned.

*ya ba pills, known locally as pil kuda (horse drug) are methamphetamine mixed with caffeine.
