Lions Corner is a new attraction at Taiping Lake Park

TAIPING: The newly created Lions Corner in the popular Raintree Walk leisure area, Taman Tasik Taiping, allows visitors to enjoy the rainforest here.

Not only that, the location, known for its over 100-year-old rain tree canopy (Samanea saman) is also able to attract many visitors especially on weekends.

According to Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) Chairman Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, the community project involves the cooperation of six Lions Clubs in Taiping and Kerian (Zone 11).

“The provision of tables and chairs to rest for visitors and residents of Taiping at Lions Corner-Lions Corner has been completed.

“With this donation from the Lions Club, visitors can stop and relax while enjoying the scenery.

“It is a peaceful and calm environment that allows visitors to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the rainforest,” he said when inaugurating the Lions Corner here on Wednesday.

The text of the speech was read by the Municipal Secretary, Kamaruzzaman Kamari.

He also said that MPT always welcomes such collaborations, regardless of the organization or association.

In the meantime, he said Raintree Walk is a popular attraction in Taiping town and it is a unique pedestrian path through the canopy of rain trees that are over 138 years old.

“Beginning 15 December 2017, a part of the 630-meter Ring Road in front of the Flemington Hotel up to the intersection in front of Menara Kamal Bina was permanently closed to be used as a Raintree Walk and No Motor Vehicle Zone.

“Next on January 28, 2022, a two-way road 750 meters long connecting Jalan Pekeliling, Taman Tasik Taiping with the road in Taman Saw Ah Choy near the Flemington Hotel roundabout was  built for the closure of Raintree Walk 2.0,” he said.

He said that in total there are eight lakes in the Taman Tasik Taiping area.

Taman Tasik Taiping was developed in 1884 with an area of ​​64 hectares and is located in the middle of the city.

It was opened and inaugurated on 17 November 1893 by the British Resident in Perak, Frank Swettenham.
