Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah Pioneers EV Charging Station Facility

By Zaki Salleh

BEHRANG: Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS) now hosts a TNB Electron electric vehicle (EV) charging station for both commercial and educational use.

This initiative strengthens the EV technology training ecosystem under the Polytechnic Centre of Technology Automotive and Manufacturing (POLCAM) at PSAS.

The project is the result of a strategic collaboration between PSAS and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), formalized in 2023. It marks the first EV station installed in partnership with a polytechnic institution in Malaysia.

This effort aligns with the national agenda to expand EV usage and enhance TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) education in green technology, in line with Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Equipped with a 120kW dual-nozzle fast charger, the facility is accessible 24 hours a day and includes designated EV parking and mobile app-based payment options.

It benefits not only the polytechnic community and nearby residents but also provides convenience for drivers exiting major highways onto the north-south route.

The launch ceremony was officiated by the Director-General of the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zahari Ismail.

The event was attended by TNB management, PSAS leadership, and industry partners in automotive and electrical technology.

The EV station launch coincided with the PSAS Electric Vehicle Carnival, held from July 28 to 29, 2025.

The carnival featured the latest EV technologies, test drives by industry partners, an electric automotive industry exhibition, and knowledge-sharing sessions in the automotive field.
