Manjung Police, TNB Halt Bitcoin Mining Operation

By Zaki Salleh

MANJUNG: An illegal electricity theft operation for digital currency (Bitcoin) mining was successfully shut down in this district.

The operation was the result of a joint effort between the Manjung District Police Headquarters (IPD Manjung) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at nine separate locations.

Among the items seized were 61 Bitcoin mining machines, nine Wi-Fi modems, one router, and various types of wiring, estimated to be worth thousands of ringgit.

All the locations were found to be conducting illegal Bitcoin mining activities by tapping into the electricity supply without going through a TNB meter.

The operation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Manjung along with TNB’s technical team, also discovered that significant electricity losses had occurred due to the illegal connections.

IPD Manjung reminds the public that such activities not only break the law but can also endanger lives and property.

Public cooperation is greatly appreciated in providing information to help combat such criminal activities.

Any information can be reported directly to IPD Manjung at 05-6886222, via WhatsApp hotline at 017-6828005, or at the nearest police station.
