YB Wong Kah Woh Meets with PUMM in Parliament, Voices Support for Perak “Entrepreneurs’ Home” Initiative

Joint Efforts to Promote Youth Entrepreneurship and Celebrate 20th Anniversary

Deputy Minister of Education YB Tuan Wong Kah Woh received a delegation from the Malaysia Entrepreneurs Development Association (Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia, PUMM) at the Parliament of Malaysia on 31 July. During the meeting, they discussed preparations for PUMM Perak’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration and held in-depth exchanges on the blueprint for the “Entrepreneurs’ Home” initiative, reflecting the Minister’s strong support for youth entrepreneurship and local economic development.

Despite the session coinciding with the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar’s tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan in Parliament, YB Wong took time from his packed schedule to meet the PUMM team, demonstrating his commitment to grassroots organisations and youth enterprise development. He also took the opportunity to briefly introduce the new Parliament building facilities and open-door policy that has been in place since 2021, encouraging more associations to engage with Parliament and strengthen collaboration with the government.

The visit was led by PUMM National President Dato’ Sri Dr. Teh Tai Yong, accompanied by Perak State Liaison Chairman Mr. Robin Low and 20th Anniversary Organising Chairman Mr. John Chong. The team provided a comprehensive briefing on PUMM Perak’s development direction and shared the vision and execution strategy of the “Entrepreneurs’ Home” initiative.

Dato’ Sri Dr. Teh shared that PUMM currently has 10 state liaison committees across Malaysia with over 3,000 members, organising more than 400 business networking, training, and collaboration programmes annually. PUMM is committed to building a growth platform for entrepreneurs, particularly in Perak where there is a growing trend of young people returning to start businesses in their hometowns. The “Entrepreneurs’ Home” initiative aims to consolidate resources and create a multifunctional hub for training, mentoring, co-working, and business exchange—empowering more youth to realise their entrepreneurial dreams locally.

Perak Chairman Robin Low emphasised that Perak was the first state in Malaysia where PUMM established a liaison committee—signifying its importance. However, the chapter still does not have a physical “home” of its own. He clarified that the concept of the “Entrepreneurs’ Home” goes beyond just an office or clubhouse—it symbolises a place that brings together resources, fosters empowerment, and supports youth entrepreneurs. He hopes this initiative will effectively attract talents and ignite economic vitality in Perak.

Organising Chairman Chong Ming Keong added that the grand 20th anniversary celebration, themed “Sailing Through 20 Years, Moving Forward Together”, will be held on 9 August 2025. It not only marks a significant retrospective of PUMM’s journey but will also serve as the official launch ceremony for the “Entrepreneurs’ Home” initiative. The project is preliminarily planned to be located in Ipoh, with a fundraising target of RM1 million. The committee seeks strong support from YB and all sectors of society to realise this vision.
