Special Operation Targets Illegal Tenants at Waller Court

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: A married couple along with their two-month-old baby were among those inspected during an enforcement operation recently carried out at the Waller Court flats.

The special operation aimed at cracking down on illegal occupants also found that the couple was suspected of involvement in the abuse of prohibited substances.

The operation was led by the Enforcement and Valuation Department of the Ipoh City Council (MBI), in collaboration with the Enforcement Unit of the Kinta District Welfare Office, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

According to the Perak State Social Welfare Department (JKM), checks revealed that the baby’s birth certificate had not yet been processed.

“This special operation was carried out to identify and evict individuals occupying MBI housing units illegally.

“The involvement of JKM Kinta District was in preparation for any unforeseen cases, particularly involving the homeless, the elderly, neglected families, and child welfare issues.

“Throughout the operation, no enforcement actions under JKM’s authority were taken except for the case involving the couple with the nearly two-month-old baby,” said the statement here today.

It added that through an intervention conducted by a Child Protector, a decision was made to assist the couple.

This was to ensure the child’s welfare is safeguarded and their identity properly documented.

“The couple has given an undertaking to care for their child to the best of their ability.

“Should they fail to do so, further action will be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Child Act 2001,” the department added.

The case will continue to be monitored and followed up by the appointed Child Protector from time to time.
