IPOH:Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, has warned the public to be cautious of fake social media accounts using his image and voice for fraudulent purposes.
According to him, since yesterday evening, his office has received numerous complaints regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology by irresponsible individuals to create fake TikTok accounts impersonating him.
“They used my image and voice to produce several videos that appear to show me offering cash and urging people to contact a specific phone number to make claims,” he said in a statement.
Saarani emphasized that all offers made through these accounts are false and have no connection to him or the state government.
“I urge the public not to be deceived, as the account does not belong to me and any offers made are untrue,” he explained.
He added that any form of government assistance will only be announced through the official social media accounts of the Perak Menteri Besar and other official state government channels.
He also stated that the matter has been reported to the authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), for investigation and further action.
“I kindly ask everyone to also report these fake accounts if seen. Let’s not give space to digital fraud,” he said.
The spread of fake social media accounts using AI technology is becoming increasingly concerning, especially when it involves national leaders.
The public is advised to always verify the authenticity of information before taking any action.
