Community Efforts Shine at Rainbow Home

By Yashila Issabelle

Rainbow Children’s Home, long familiar to the Ipoh community, has recently moved to its new premises in Desa Rishah.

The relocation marks a fresh chapter for the home, which continues its mission to care for children who have lost their families or come from difficult backgrounds of abandonment, poverty, abuse, and loss.

This home is more than just a shelter.

The children are loved and cared for by Jennifer Arokiam and her mother, Rose, who have dedicated themselves to helping heal emotional scars, rebuilding young lives, and instilling good values and character.

Over the past year, Jennifer and her mother have organised countless activities with the help of generous individuals and organisations.

These include outings to theme parks, the zoo, waterfalls, cinemas, equestrian visits, and festive celebrations, as well as fun days at parks and trying new sports.

There have also been health checks for these girls.

For the children, Rainbow is a place where they feel included, seen, and loved.

Their joy is captured in Jennifer’s own words from the home’s social media posts:

  • “Your generosity brought us so much joy to our day, and we are grateful.”
  • “It was a wonderful time spent in the park, filled with fun and relaxation. The kids had a blast being in the open space.”

Education has always been at the core of Rainbow’s mission, and the results speak for themselves.

Earlier this year, three children – Jasmine(8), Sharon(12), and Kiruba(10) – received recognition for academic excellence at their school’s Academic Excellence Appreciation Ceremony.

Sharon also earned the title of Best Sportswoman of SK Buntong 2025, adding to the home’s pride.

Another girl, Noami(21), who joined the home at 13, recently graduated from her STPM with a commendable CGPA of 3.25.

Their achievements reflect the nurturing environment Jennifer and her mother have created for the 20 children (ages 6-18) currently under their care.

The home continues to thrive thanks to ongoing community support, helping the children grow and reach their fullest potential.

With the move to a new home, the needs have also grown.

Rising costs and the upkeep of a larger space mean there are still many essentials waiting to be addressed.

The team at Rainbow hopes the community will once again step forward with the same generosity that has carried them this far. Among the items most urgently needed are:

● Wall painting (four side walls, height 6ft)

● Undercoat sealer (3 large)

● Weatherbound paint (3 large)

● Wiring, lights (8), ceiling fans (5), switch plugs (6), 6m 4-core cable (35m)

● Plumbing: washing basins (2), garden tap (1)

● Flooring (45ft x 18ft): levelling and tiles

● New bathroom: toilet bowl (1), wash basin (1)

These improvements will go a long way toward making the house not only safer but also a true home where the children can study, rest, and play in comfort.

  • Gifts-in-kind – Groceries, school supplies, clothing, or household items are always welcome.
