MANJUNG: An engagement session involving 32 guest house (homestay) operators in this district was held with the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).
The session was related to the implementation of the Perak Hotel Regulations 2024 under the Perak Hotel Enactment 2023, which stipulates that accommodation industry operators must apply for a premises licence for their lodging facilities.

Director of the Licensing and Enforcement Department of MPM, Mohamad Sharil Salihan, stated that this requirement falls under Clause 2 concerning definitions in the Perak Hotel Regulations 2024.
He explained that during the session, the council clarified regulations that cover motels, inns, lodgings, guest houses, and homestays, with a fee of RM200 per premise with 3 rooms, and an additional RM20 for each additional room.
The distinction between Inap Desa (Homestay) and Guest Houses was also clarified.
“Inap desa refers to accommodation based on local lifestyle experiences, where guests usually stay with the host or in their home.
“The focus is on culture, way of life, food, and community activities.
“Guest houses, on the other hand, refer to more comfortable and independent accommodations, such as rental homes or budget hotels, without cultural activities.
“Guests do not stay with the host. The host simply rents out the space, with a greater emphasis on comfort, privacy, and basic amenities,” he added.
This session provided an opportunity for all stakeholders to better understand the requirements and operations, thereby safeguarding the interests of the tourism industry.
