by KT Leong

In light of the recent alarming rise in bullying cases across the country, the Educational Welfare and Research Foundation (EWRF) Ipoh Branch has taken proactive steps to create greater awareness among students, parents, and teachers regarding this issue. As part of this initiative, an Anti-Bullying Awareness Programme was recently conducted at SJKT Ladang Matang, Taiping, focusing on various forms of bullying, including cyberbullying, social media harassment and verbal abuse.

The programme saw the participation of students, parents, and teachers, reflecting the collective effort to curb bullying at its roots. The Headmistress of SJKT Ladang Matang, Pn. Kalaivani, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of early education and intervention in preventing bullying among schoolchildren.

The session was conducted in collaboration with EWRF Ipoh Branch, led by Mr. Sylverster Dhas, who serves as both the Branch Chairman and National Vice President of EWRF Malaysia, together with Mr. Prabhakaran, Vice Chairman of EWRF Ipoh Branch, and the team. In his address, Mr. Sylverster highlighted the growing concern over bullying cases nationwide, stressing that such behaviour has lasting emotional and psychological effects on victims. He reiterated EWRF’s commitment to continue conducting similar awareness programmes across Tamil schools in the region to promote empathy, respect, and a safe learning environment for all students.

To reinforce the message, EWRF Ipoh Branch presented LED Lighted Box Anti-Bullying Awareness Posters to be displayed around the school compound, serving as a daily reminder to students of the importance of kindness and respect.

As part of this initiative, students were also reminded of the key traits of an Anti-Bullying culture (Ciri-Ciri Utama Anti-Buli):

Respect: Treat everyone with dignity and understanding.
Empathy: Put yourself in others’ shoes before you act or speak.
Courage: Stand up for what is right, even when it’s not easy.
Responsibility: Report bullying when you see it.
Kindness: Small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Through such initiatives, EWRF continues to champion emotional well-being, mutual respect, and a culture of compassion, ensuring that schools remain as safe spaces for every child to learn and grow.
