LUMUT: Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Berhad, Lumut PME Plant mobilised 34 staff members in an effort to restore the beauty of the popular tourist beach, Teluk Batik.

The programme also involved the Department of Environment, Teluk Intan, and the Environmental Health and Urban Services Department of the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).

According to the Operations Manager of Lumut PME Plant, Mohd Hazrul Fazli Abd Hamid, the activity aims to raise awareness about waste management and environmental protection.

It also reflects PETRON’s strong commitment to environmental conservation and supports its environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals for sustainable practices.

The initiative is also part of efforts to help maintain the beauty of the beach for MPM’s tourism purposes.

A total of 112 kilograms (kg) of rubbish were collected along a 2 km stretch of the beach and around the business stalls within one hour.

Meanwhile, another corporate social responsibility programme was conducted by Swiss Profile (M) Sdn. Bhd., in collaboration with MPM at Pasir Bogak Beach, Pangkor Island.

The company, based in Prai, Penang, planted 150 Merambong (Scaevola taccada) trees — a tropical plant beneficial to the ecosystem in preventing erosion and protecting turtle landing areas.

Swiss Profile’s General Manager, Matthieu Crolas, led 99 staff members in carrying out beach-cleaning activities at the popular tourist spot in Pasir Bogak.

This programme not only focuses on environmental sustainability but also aims to create a positive social impact, making business operations part of the solution to social and environmental challenges.
