By Zaki Salleh

GOPENG: Mandarin oranges are an essential symbol of the Chinese New Year celebration.

They represent wealth, good fortune, prosperity, and happiness for the Chinese community.

Their golden color and round shape are regarded as gold ingots that bring good luck, as well as a symbol of family harmony.

They also signify appreciation and goodwill when presented to guests.

The Gopeng Parliamentary Service Centre, for instance, distributed mandarin oranges in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Kopisan Baru, Pekan Gopeng, and Taman Gopeng Jaya.

The event was held in a lively atmosphere, further enlivened by lion dance performances that brought cheer to the local community.

The program not only symbolized the sharing of blessings during the festive season but also strengthened ties between leaders and the people in the area.

The presence of attendees from various races also highlighted the spirit of goodwill and harmony that forms the foundation of festive celebrations in the country.

Also present was Gopeng Member of Parliament, Tan Kar Hing, together with the Parliamentary Service Centre team and state assembly representatives to celebrate with the local community regardless of background.
