A lively community event held in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2026 brought an estimated 600 residents and visitors to PPR Taman Harmoni Buntong on March 8.
The event saw residents come together to prepare 1,000 containers of bubur lambuk, a traditional savoury rice porridge cooked with herbs and spices and often shared during Ramadan.
The dish was distributed to visitors throughout the programme, with volunteers and local residents working together to prepare the large batch for the community.
Alongside the cooking activity, visitors were also able to purchase essential goods through the Jualan Rahmah initiative organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
The programme aims to make daily necessities more affordable for the public, particularly for families managing rising living costs.
Community outreach activities were also supported by Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, while fresh vegetables from Cameron Highlands were distributed to 100 selected B40 families, sponsored by Toyota Autoria Sdn Bhd Ipoh, helping to ease the financial burden for those in need.
The programme was organised by the Perak Women for Women Society (PWW) in collaboration with the Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) and the Taman Harmoni Buntong Residents’ Association.
The event was officiated by Ms Hema Suchitra Dewi, representing PWW.
Also present were Encik Romzi bin Zamri, Director of the Community Division at Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) representing the Mayor of Ipoh, and Encik Mohamed Zaizulman bin Zainal Abidin, Kinta District Unity Officer.
The programme began with a prayer led by Ustaz Abdul Malik bin Ibrahim, Imam of Masjid Al Ansar Buntong.
By the end of the afternoon, 1,000 containers of bubur lambuk had been shared, and hundreds of residents had participated in the programme, turning the gathering into a lively neighbourhood event for families across Buntong.
