LENGGONG: Lenggong has etched its own history after being recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark for 2026, placing Perak prominently on the international map.
The recognition was granted by UNESCO through the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme, which listed Lenggong among 12 new global geoparks this year.

Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the official announcement will be made on April 23, while the certificate presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 27 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
He said the achievement is the result of continuous efforts since Lenggong was gazetted as a National Geopark on 16 December 2021, supported by both the state and Federal governments as well as various agencies including the Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG).
“This recognition is truly meaningful as it successfully elevates the Lenggong brand to the global level,” he said in a statement.

He added that the success was also driven by the commitment of the Lenggong Geopark Management Body together with the local community in preserving the area’s natural treasures and geological heritage.
He also expressed appreciation to all involved, describing the recognition as a major milestone for Perak under the slogan ‘Keindahan Yang Tersembunyi’ (The Hidden Beauty).
