GOPENG: The 80-year-old Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Gopeng is set to undergo a major transformation following the approval of a redevelopment project for its school building.
The school’s main block had been classified as a dilapidated building under Scale 7 in 2024, prompting the need for urgent action to ensure the safety and comfort of its students and staff.
Approved in October 2025, the redevelopment will include the construction of six new classrooms, an administrative office, a teachers’ room and a sports storage facility.

Other essential facilities such as a Design and Technology (RBT) room, a science laboratory and a guidance and counselling room will also be built to meet the school’s fundamental needs.
The project has been allocated a ceiling budget of RM14.5 million.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh visited the school for a briefing by the Public Works Department (JKR) on the current status and implementation timeline of the project.

According to the plan, the tender process and issuance of the Letter of Acceptance are expected to be finalised before the end of this year. The construction period is estimated to take 22 months.
Also present during the visit were three Perak state executive councillors, Datuk A. Sivanesan, Sandrea Ng and Thulsi Manogaran.
The project is expected to breathe new life into SJKT Gopeng by providing a safer and more conducive learning environment.
