IPOH: Three cardiologists from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) have made Malaysia proud on the global stage after emerging as world champions at the American College of Cardiology Conference (ACC 2026) in the Fellows-in-Training (FITs) Jeopardy competition.
In a statement, HRPB said the three young doctors — Dr Chen Tai Meng, Dr Ang Jian-Gang and Dr Yee Shen Yew, represented the hospital’s Cardiology Department and defeated strong teams from several countries.
The trio impressed judges with their exceptional command of cardiology disciplines, including interventional cardiology, imaging, preventive cardiology, electrophysiology and heart failure.

The tournament, held in New Orleans, United States, marked a significant achievement since the international category was introduced in 2018.
This is the first time a team from HRPB Perak was selected to represent Malaysia after winning the national-level competition organised by the National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM) and subsequently the Asia-level title in 2025.

Meanwhile, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad extended his congratulations for the achievement that elevated Malaysia’s standing on the world stage.
“Congratulations to the three young cardiologists — Dr Chen Tai Meng, Dr Ang Jian-Gang and Dr Yee Shen Yew from HRPB — for bringing pride to Malaysia internationally.
“This prestigious championship tests the knowledge, sharpness of mind and clinical capability of cardiology trainees from around the globe.
“Their success proves that the quality of our medical specialists is among the best internationally.
“I also extend my appreciation to HRPB director Dr Fakhruddin Amran and Cardiology Department head Dr Nor Hanim Mohd Amin for their leadership and continuous support in nurturing outstanding medical professionals,” he said.
