IPOH: Another historic moment in the development of rugby in the state of Perak was recorded with the official establishment of the Ipoh Rugby Academy (ARAI).

This is the first rugby academy of its kind in the state.

The establishment of the academy is an initiative by the Kinta District Rugby Association in an effort to empower grassroots rugby development, particularly in Ipoh.

The opening ceremony of ARAI was officiated by the Perak State Executive Councilor for Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports, Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hanipah.

Also held was a sponsorship agreement signing ceremony as a symbol of continuous support for the development of the academy.

In a climate of increasing sports costs, this support is vital to ensure the continuity of programs and the development of young talent.

In his speech, Khairuddin expressed his appreciation for the diligent efforts of the organizers who successfully realized the establishment of the academy.

He stated that the effort opens a new chapter for the development of rugby in the state.

The ceremony also served as a symbol of the beginning of a greater journey in producing new rugby talent for the state.

ARAI began as a small dream in 2024 with the goal of reviving rugby in Ipoh, which was previously seen to be declining.

Since its inception, the academy has shown positive progress by successfully bringing players to compete on higher stages, including participation in the 2026 Super School Rugby tournament.
