Illegal to encroach on reserve land without permission

By Zaki Salleh

Taiping – Majlis Perbandaran Taiping (MPT) has continued its enforcement operation against illegal cultivation and encroachment on open reserve land in Taman Kami.

The operation was carried out following the detection of unauthorised planting activities on reserve land in the area in recent months.

Prior to taking action, MPT conducted site visits and installed banners as an early notice to local residents.

The move was aimed at giving those involved the opportunity to cease their private gardening activities on the land.

Subsequently, clearing works were carried out to ensure that the reserve land is used in accordance with established regulations.

According to MPT, the action is in line with provisions under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).

The provision empowers local authorities to remove any form of nuisance within their administrative areas.

In this regard, enforcement operations will continue from time to time at other identified locations.

The measure is important to ensure compliance with the law as well as to safeguard public cleanliness and safety.

The public is also reminded not to encroach on or carry out planting activities on reserve land without the approval of the authorities.
