IPOH – Efforts to combat the irresponsible practice of illegal dumping remain an ongoing challenge.
From January to June this year, a total of 148 illegal dumping hotspots were identified across Ipoh.
Various proactive measures have been implemented to address the issue, including the installation of 431 warning signboards at strategic locations.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has also issued 711 compounds for illegal dumping offences, involving a total of RM184,750 in fines.
As part of these efforts, MBI organised the Perak Clean and Healthy Programme (Perak BEST 3.0) 2026, themed “Combating Illegal Dumping Hotspots”, at Jalan Persiaran Tiara 51, Pengkalan Tiara.
The site was found to contain not only household waste but also large quantities of durian husks, believed to have been discarded by irresponsible traders.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamakhshari Hanipah led the programme.
It is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal dumping while improving the cleanliness, health, and overall well-being of the urban environment.
In addition to cleaning up the illegal dumping hotspot, activities included the installation of “Fight Illegal Dumping” awareness signboards and road sweeping.
Other initiatives carried out were the distribution of “No Littering” pamphlets, mosquito larvae inspections, fogging operations, and various other public cleanliness activities.
The programme is one of the initiatives under Local Agenda 21 (LA21), which emphasises sustainable environmental management to enhance the quality of life for the community.
Eliminating illegal dumping and maintaining a clean environment are among the key priorities of Perak BEST 3.0.
It is hoped that the programme will serve as a catalyst in fostering a more responsible community and help realise the vision of making Ipoh a clean, safe, and prosperous city.
