PANGKOR – The staircase at Pangkor Jetty has reportedly remained unrepaired despite nearly two weeks having passed since a complaint was lodged with the relevant authorities.
The steps have become increasingly slippery due to the accumulation of barnacles and growing sea snails, posing a safety risk to users.
The situation has also sparked complaints from members of the public who use the jetty daily.
Pangkor State Assemblywoman Norhaslinda Zakaria said the maintenance issue should be addressed without further delay.
She noted that cleaning works were previously carried out on a regular basis when the jetty was managed by the Marine Department.
However, she claimed that maintenance has received less attention since the management was taken over.
She said the condition not only affects the image of the jetty but also increases the risk of accidents involving users.
Norhaslinda urged SSI Perak, the current management, to take immediate action to clean and maintain the staircase.
She added that prompt action is essential to ensure the public facility remains clean, safe, and in good condition for everyone.
