GERIK – Eleven wild elephants were successfully captured in a relocation operation after entering the residential area of Kampung Bersia Lama.
Temengor State Assemblywoman (ADUN), Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, said she went to the ground to witness the elephant relocation process.
She said the operation was assisted by two trained elephants, Suria and Indah, to facilitate the capture process.
“All the elephants will be relocated to Terengganu National Park after the capture operation is completed.
“The process of capturing and relocating elephants requires a high level of expertise and patience from the personnel involved,” she said in a post on her Facebook page.
Salbiah, who is also Perak Exco for Women, Family, Community Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said the operation was not an easy task.
At the same time, the safety of residents, personnel and the animals involved must remain a priority throughout the operation.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Perak Elephant Capture Unit, Sungai Deka Conservation Centre and Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) for their involvement in the operation.
Appreciation was also extended to the Malaysian Volunteers Corps (RELA), the Kampung Bersia Lama Village Head, as well as all agencies and personnel who contributed to the success of the operation.
Salbiah hoped the relocation process would proceed smoothly, allowing the residents of Kampung Bersia Lama to resume their daily lives in greater peace and safety.
