IPOH: Several escalators at Ipoh Parade have allegedly been frequently damaged and out of service, inconveniencing visitors.
The issue is not new, and netizens have often raised it on social media.
However, an Ipoh resident, Abdul Aziz, said his complaint over the long-standing escalator problems, which had persisted for years, had finally received attention from the Perak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP).
He said several escalators at Ipoh Parade had since been repaired and replaced by the mall management with assistance from JKKP Perak.
“The damaged escalators were located at several areas within the building, including the walkway near Sushi King connecting to the cinema level.
“The escalators were found to be frequently out of service and closed to visitors. Members of the public had to use alternative routes or use the escalators manually.
“This could pose a safety risk to users,” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
He claimed that the escalator facilities at the shopping centre had frequently been out of service for extended periods, estimated to be more than seven years, without comprehensive and effective repair works being carried out.
“I lodged a complaint with the premises management through its official website four years ago.
“Although no accidents have been reported so far, the issue has raised concerns over public safety, particularly for senior citizens, children and people with disabilities.
“The issue has also been repeatedly raised by members of the public on social media.
“During my recent visit, I found that between two and four escalators had been repaired, while another two had been replaced with new ones,” he said.
With the recent refurbishment and repair works carried out on the escalators at Ipoh Parade, he hoped the improvements would make a significant difference to visitors.
He also hoped the problem would not recur in the near future in the interest of public safety.
“Thank you to JKKP and the Ipoh Parade management for their attention to the matter. Hopefully, the improvements will benefit everyone,” he said.
