IPOH – Waste separation at source is a simple practice that can have a significant impact on efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Separating waste according to categories can help reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfills.
The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) said in a statement that organic waste, such as food scraps and plant materials, can be composted to produce natural fertiliser.
Recyclable materials such as plastic, paper, glass and metal can be collected and sent to recycling centres.
“This practice not only reduces the accumulation of waste but also helps reuse discarded materials that still have value.
“Waste separation can also encourage the public to adopt more organised and responsible waste management practices,” the statement said.
Awareness of the importance of this practice should be fostered among the public, starting at home.
Cooperation from all parties is essential to ensure that waste separation becomes part of daily routines.
This practice can also support efforts to create a cleaner and healthier environment.
