IPOH – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Perak conducted an operation to cut off electricity supplies to 33 premises involved in illegal gambling activities across the state.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Perak Police Contingent carried out the operation in cooperation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The premises were identified as being involved in illegal public lottery gambling and online gambling activities.
The electricity supply disconnections were carried out under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289).
Perak Police Chief, Dato’ Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, said the action was part of the Perak police’s ongoing commitment to combat illegal gambling activities.
He said the move also aimed to prevent operators and premises owners from misusing their premises to conduct unlicensed gambling.
The operation forms part of continuous efforts to curb and prevent illegal gambling activities in the state.
Perak Police also reminded business premises owners and operators not to misuse their premises for illegal gambling activities.
The public was also advised not to participate in or assist any gambling activities that violate the law.
Perak Police stressed that enforcement action would continue to be carried out to combat illegal gambling activities throughout the state.
